A better solution for nervous sweating than sprays and surgery
There are several media campaigns on at the moment targeting nervous sweating, offering solutions from sprays to surgery. Neither though is a healthy long term solution. In Chinese Medicine sweat is the fluid of the Heart, which houses our “spirit” or “shen” as the Chinese call it. This in Western terms is like our personality and emotions. When we suffer from anxiety or excess worry, then our Heart gets over worked and becomes weak, thus resulting in excess sweating. Remember the sweating is a symptom, not a cause. Hence if you rely on sprays and surgery you are merely removing one symptom but not solving the problem, which is often rooted in stress and anxiety.
Often if asked, people who suffer nervous sweating will have underlying sleep or emotional issues, and even digestive concerns. These all point to a body which is out of balance, the sweating is a symptom your Heart energy is becoming weak. This can also lead to palpitations and a tight chest when stressed. This doesn’t mean anything is wrong with the Heart organ itself, these are signs that the Qi (energy) of the Heart is becoming weakened.
The Heart is considered the “Emperor”, it is the most important organ in that sense, which is why it houses our spirit. Like in war, the Emperor must be protected at all costs. If he is affected, then the whole kingdom is affected. This shows why if your Heart Qi becomes weak, all the systems in the body are weakened also. The Heart rules the blood, which is responsible for nourishing and sustaining the whole body. Hence, if you only take care of the sweating symptom, you’ve done nothing to address the underlying problem, which will continue to develop.
Through Acupuncture we can strengthen the Heart which will help you cope better with stress and nervous situations. It will also help reduce the sweating and improve the quality of your sleep. This method is at least all natural, and doesn’t involve anything invasive like removal of sweat glands or laser surgery. Remember, your sweat glands are there for a reason, surgery should only ever be a last resort in all scenarios.
